IBLI Borena household surveys data now available

Data from household surveys conducted by the Index-Based Livestock Insurance (IBLI) project in the Borena Zone of Ethiopia is now available online.

The data is from a pre-intervention baseline survey carried out by the IBLI team in February-March 2012, which was followed by annual rounds in 2013, 2014, and 2015, after IBLI was available to households in Borena.

In August 2012, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and Cornell University with implementing partners Oromia Insurance Company (OIC) and Oromia Credits and Saving Share Company (OCSSCO) piloted a market-mediated index-based insurance product to protect pastoralists from drought-related livestock mortality in the Borena plateau of southern Ethiopia.
